There is a cure to type 1 but unfortunately the waiting list is long. A doctor at the University of Edmonton Alberta has been successful in implanting Islet cells in the liver of type 1 patients who subsequently do not need to take insulin. The problem is that it takes two healthy organ donors to die to cure only one person. Many people do not make their wishes known to those around them regarding harvesting their organs upon their death. For more information read The New England Journal of Medicine at http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/short/355/13/1318 and please carry a signed organ donor card! Ontario residents can have their wishes put on their drivers liscenses. For an organ donation card you can print and carry in your wallet or purse point your browser to http://www.transplant.ca/downloads/CAT%20Brochure%20-%20Oct%2007%20-%20English.pdf
