Our Internet is At StakeThe IssueISPs have been restricting the free flow of P2P Internet traffic through their networks for years. In some cases, ISPs have pushed past the boundaries of acceptable behaviour. Their tactics now involve forging "hang-up" messages between computers communicating through their networks. Here at Vuze, where P2P technology is the foundation of our business, we decided to take a stand. We decided that enough is enough. So in November 2007, Vuze petitioned the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to investigate the traffic throttling practices of US ISPs. Our petition led to a series of fact-finding hearings and raised public awareness and debate on the issue. The first hearing was held at Harvard, on February 25, 2008, and the second hearing April 17th, 2008 at Stanford. After testifiying at the first hearing, Vuze CEO Gilles BianRosa summed up the experience in a post on the Vuze blog. What You Need to KnowStay current on the issue. Read these articles.Learn what's at stake and what's happening now. What Can You Do?Install this Vuze Plug-In to help us prove exactly how ISPs are throttling P2P traffic.
As the data rolls in, our plug-in is beginning to shed light on the issue of network throttling, where it is happening and by whom. Here is a first look, compliments of the community. Download the report. We also sent letters to the four ISPs in the US and Canada that have ASNs that ranked in the top twenty by median reset rate (AOL, BellSouth (AT&T), Cablevision and Cogeco). We asked them for transparency in to how they are managing their networks and, specifically, if they are using a false reset message technique. Tell Us What You ThinkGot an opinion?
