Concert recording the 12 of May 1981, fifty years after Ysaÿe's death. Just as Vieuxtemps his teacher who said : "runs ? I never wrote any !" Ysaÿe never wrote any run as such... His sole and unique goal was indeed, and according to his proper words : "nothing that wouldn't have as goal emotion, poetry, and heart"...
Between virtuosity and music, there is the same difference as there is between gymnastic (even high level) and choregraphy... even if the differences can seem sometimes very smal, and even if each of them can benefit from the other...
True, in this divertimento, the virtuosity takes a preponderant place, but always at the service of music and expression.
You have that orchestra there, and that fiddle amusing himself coming in and out of it, in an always varied game... Much like certain dolphins amusing them self jumpin' in and out of the wave and caperin', for the sole and simple joy of doin' it...
