One the puppet of the other - L'un la poupée de l'autre

The video has been presented on FreeboxTV 21 07 2007 and in the Cultural Center Saint-Exupéry in Reims during nuitnumérique#5, 20 10 2007, at INTIMACY across digital & visceral performance Saturday 5.30 pm 8-12-2007 in Goldsmiths Small Hall, London and in the"tout va bien" show, ESCA Gallery, Milhaud, November 23 till December 16, 2007.
On the scene two igloo tents. Two spaces in the shape of a sphere will shelter the two artists who will devote themselves to a play in which they will be the others living doll.
Inside their tents they will be face to face via a system of two webcams. The public will be able to follow the hidden face to face via an interface that permits to project the webcam images of the two artists side by side on the wall behind the tents.
As in a virtual world (a video game, Second Life) the artists will give orders to their avatar played by the other. But contrary to what happens in the virtual world, here the alter ego is well alive. It has its own capacities and it can agree or not to give flesh to the projections of the other.
In this series of performances Annie Abrahams and Nicolas Frespech comment on the present situation where we tend more and more to live in our own bubble, our own sphere, without need for the other, by forming a couple with our virtual doubles.
Each performance can be seen as a gesture that will reveal the play, and the perversities that result from it, between proximity and distance in Internet relations in a rather literal way.

Présenté au centre culturel Saint-Exupéry de Reims pendant la nuitnumérique#5, 20 10 2007, à " INTIMACY across digital & visceral performance" samedi 8-12-2007 17h30 au Goldsmiths Small Hall, Londres et dans l'exposition "tout va bien", Galerie ESCA, Milhaud, 23 novembre au 16 décembre, 2007.
Sur scène deux tentes igloos. Deux espaces en forme de bulle abriteront les deux artistes qui vont se livrer à un jeu dans lequel ils seront la poupée l'un de l'autre. Via un système de deux webcams depuis l'intérieur de leurs tentes ils seront en face l'un de l'autre.
Le public dans la salle pourra suivre le face à face cachée via une interface développée par Clément Charmet (panoplie.org). Ils regarderont les images des deux artistes à l'intérieur de leurs tentes l'un à côté de l'autre projeté au mur derrière les tentes.
Comme dans un monde virtuel (un jeu vidéo, Second Life) les artistes vont donner des commandes à leur avatar, joué par l'autre. Mais à l'opposé des mondes virtuels, ici l'alter ego est bien vivant, il a des pouvoirs propres et il peut accepter ou non de donner chair aux projections de l'autre.
Annie Abrahams et Nicolas Frespech commentent ainsi une situation où aujourd'hui nous avons de plus en plus tendance à vivre dans notre propre bulle, notre sphère à soi, sans encore avoir besoin de l'autre, en formant un couple avec nos doubles virtuels.
